ACCELERATING HIV/AIDS RESPONSE IN THE MENA REGION

COMMUNITY OBSERVATORIES AGAINST THE CRISIS

Non-profits NGOs on the front line

The situation in the Middle East – North Africa (MENA) region is extremely worrying. The spread of HIV has skyrocketed and almost 1 in 3 people affected by it still do not have access to treatments. Given this state of affairs, Solidarité Sida and ITPC-MENA have launched the FORSS program in partnership with five local non-profit associations.  The purpose of the program is to document the barriers to accessing prevention, testing and care to guide public policies for dealing with the epidemic and strengthen health systems. From 2018 to 2022, the FORSS Program was implemented in Tunisia, Morocco, Mauritania, Egypt, and Lebanon, with the aim of establishing a community monitoring system on the quality and accessibility of services, while also improving the knowledge and practices of community actors. Since 2023, the Program has continued in Tunisia, Morocco, Mauritania, and Lebanon. It now integrates hospital healthcare personnel to create synergy and more effectively influence HIV/AIDS response strategies at both national and regional levels.
